WordCamp US 2021 Back and Better Than Ever

Last year, in the wake of a global pandemic, WordCamp US organizers made the painful decision to cancel the conference. Citing Zoom fatigue and organizer burn out, the team decided it was best to allow people a break at the end of the year.

After a year of planning and perfecting virtual events, WordCamp US is back! The team will hold a one day all virtual, free event on October 1 starting at 8:45 am PDT and we couldn’t be more excited. Get ready for great speakers, sponsors, and even music! Get your free ticket!

The team has compiled an exciting group of experts and leaders from around the community. Speakers will cover topics ranging from accessibility, to building green websites, to everything in between. Take a look at the full list of speakers below:

We are especially looking forward to Accessibility is a Journey presented by Bret Hannon. This talk will get site users started in accessibility, something that can feel daunting at first. Hannon will go through her agency’s journey with it and give tips and tricks anyone can implement.

Don’t miss the super topical talk held by Taco Verdonschot, Recharging Your Social Batteries in the Age of Online Events. The hardest part about this year was not getting to see our WordPress friends in person. As much as online events have tried to foster that, it’s hard to replicate the feeling of talking to someone in the hallway. Verdonschot will share some of his tips for staying social, even when apart.

And last but not least, WordPress co-founder Matt Mullenweg will round out the day with a look back on the year in WordPress and a look forward at what’s to come.

Connections

We all miss our WordPress friends and the WCUS 21 team has tried their best to make talking to people easy. Throughout the day, there will be an ongoing chat where attendees can talk to each other and ask speakers questions.

Sponsors will have virtual booths where attendees can drop in and talk with someone about products. WP Engine will be demoing their new Headless product, Atlas at their booth. Will Johnston will be in the Zoom booth from 1:30-2:00 pm CDT. The first 20 minutes will be the demo and the last 10 will be open for a Q and A. Demo attendees will receive a link to get a box of free snacks from Snack Magic and will be entered to win a $500 Apple gift card.

Togetherness

WordPress users are not just talented developers, many are also talented musicians. There will be a break midday to celebrate some of these people in the WordPress Community Musical Break. Grab some lunch, or breakfast, depending on your time zone, and enjoy some entertainment!
